November 14-17, 2025, at Northwest University in Xi'an, with the venue at the International Education Building of Shaanxi Normal University.
During the buffet lunch, I unexpectedly ran into my colleague from Shanghai University, Professor Mengyang.
The theme of this conference was ethics and cross-cultural dialogue. I had the opportunity to read and review Brother Yang Jialun's masterpiece.
Meeting old friends and making new acquaintances—isn't that a joy?
After the conference, common issues came to mind:
1. Lack of literature review. This seems a widespread problem, as if each presentation were the first to address the topic.
2. Excessive abstraction with unclear problem awareness.
3. Niche focus, forming self-contained systems.
It appears academia has become about writing papers, and writing papers has turned into an “internal circulation” requiring no readers.
Comparative studies: parallel studies, impact studies, comparative literature and cultural encounter studies share common ground. I propose organizing a methodology workshop on cultural/literary encounters with Brother Yang Junjie.
These are my personal thoughts, not necessarily correct.
At the closing ceremony, Professor Zhao Lin remarked that current academic discussions lack real-world engagement, a stark contrast to their era.
Now everyone is clear-headed—let's not discuss reality.
